In 2020, the University of Southern Maine Foundation set out to launch the most ambitious fundraising campaign in its 100+ year history. Initially, the team approached iBec with a traditional request: design a printed campaign booklet to mail to potential donors.
But at a pivotal moment for their university, we stepped in not just as a partner, but as a thought leader, reframing the ask entirely. Instead of producing a static campaign booklet, we proposed a digital-first strategy: an immersive, interactive experience that could tell USM’s story more powerfully, foster deeper donor connection, and remove barriers to giving.
Campaign Development
Branding & Identity
Every campaign needs a strong identity, and this one had a personal start. iBec’s Founder and CEO (and USM alum), Becky McKinnell, created the campaign logo and led the initial branding effort. As the campaign evolved, so did the messaging, reflecting the growing momentum and impact of the initiative.

Dynamic Website Experience
As the campaign progressed, we reimagined the site’s function. What began as an informational hub became a living, public-facing platform to showcase campaign updates, success stories, and donor highlights. We collaborated with the USMF team to revise messaging for a broader audience, while our team redesigned the user experience to reflect the campaign’s new phase.

“Our printer says that our annual report is beautiful, and so different from anything they’ve printed before. It is really stunning.
So creative and beautiful. The team over here has been singing your praises, as usual. Becky: you are the gift that keeps on giving. You always have our backs and make us better.”-Corey Hascall ’99, President & CEO

Celebrating Impact
After the campaign wrapped in June 2023, we helped USMF finish their campaign through a thoughtfully designed Campaign Summary Report. This printed piece highlighted student achievements, major milestones, and the generosity of alumni and donors.
The result? More than $50 million raised to support the future of the University of Southern Maine.
